Thorens Best of Fifties & Sixties: ALS SICH DIE ZEITEN GEÄNDERT HABEN

THORENS® Music | Best of fifties sixtiesMusic as a mirror of its time - that is an image that is all too often used. Which, on closer inspection, usually turns out to be all too coarse-grained. A piece of music or a group of related pieces of music as a mirror of an aspect of a certain time - that would be more accurate, but in our age of great simplification (sic), people don't like such differentiated and sometimes complicated observations. The great US songwriter Bob Dylan may have had this in mind more than 50 years ago when he gave the title song of his third LP the refrain "The Times, They Are A-Changin'". The times, yes, they are changing. We are a little proud to be able to present this song on this double LP. It gives an excellent motto for the times that are reflected here: It's about the musically enormously exciting decade between 1955 and 1964. And while we were on the subject of simplifying: The catchwords of this pop decade - and thus for these four LP sides - are rock'n'roll, folk, beat and soul. Each of these styles is represented by giants, many of whom we have gathered here. But what distinguishes them above all is that they shaped "their" style, but mostly developed it and themselves beyond it. Not only the times, but also the artists, also the styles changed, and that too in a complex interplay.
